Who We Are
The Benin Women for Science (BW4S) is the Benin National Chapter of the Organaization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). It is based at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Abomey-Calavi-Benin
Republic. In order to fulfil the objectives of OWSD, we committed to consolidate a database of women Scientists in Benin, provide personal mentorship to young girls and women in Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) and support national initiatives that aim to empower Benin women in STEAM.
BW4S is a dynamic non-profit association, founded by Benin women scientists involved in research and science activities from a significant variety of fields of knowledge who support the idea of improving the participation and the number of women in Science, Technology, Arts, Engineering and Mathematics (STEAM) in
Benin. We believe that this platform will bring together an enthusiastic women scientists and researchers, both living within the country and abroad to connect and work together
in synergy for better development of Sciences in our country.

To create a dynamic and inclusive community where Benin women are leaders in the STEM fields, through quality higher education and strategic global partnerships. We aspire to see Benin women shine as innovators and pioneers, having a positive and lasting impact on their communities. We envision seeing our young fellow women in science working and collaborating with other leading companies and institutions locally and abroad.
MIssion
Serve as a national platform for Benin women; work with visionary institutions (University, NGO, and Foundation) across the world to provide suitable access to high education and training in STEAM field. Try to ease the way for Benin women to reach the national and international research sectors.
Awareness
Promote the visibility of OWSD programmes and activities at local level. Strengthen collaboration and networking between Benin women scientists and promote international partnership between Benin women scientists and other women scientists across the world.
Empowerment
Encourage and support women to pursue their study and research in STEAM by empowering capable and skilled young women in all science disciplines, especially those who are disadvantaged in such fields and addressing issues faced by Benin women in STEAM fields. Organize workshops and other activities to improve young women knowledge in STEAM and encourage them to take up studies in such fields
Entrepreneurship
Develop, strength, and promote entrepreneurship and scientific research engagement for women of Benin.
Funding
We welcome Non-Financial and Financial donations from volunteers, NGO or any other institution within the country and abroad. As a non-profit Association, we aim to develop a fund raising approach to support young girls and women activities in Science. We are therefore grateful for all donations that are willing to support education in the same frame line as our association.
